I work with a crew of pipe fitters, I play dumb so I get all the easy work, little do they know I have more experience then all of them combined.
First year in the oil patch and honestly to be a rig pig ‘ i’m being called’ i sort of understand why you hard oil workers are all drug addicts, alcoholic and gamblers. It’s sure of a hell of a life to live knowing your wife is spending you’re hard earned money on her boyfriend 3 weeks a month.
I don’t work in the patch anymore, but I worked in it for 7 years before I got laid off in 2014 and couldn’t find a job elsewhere. It’s slowly picking up but why do I see ppl still bitching about not working and having a hard finding a job? Can’t find a job in the patch? Go to a construction site and ask for a labour job, most likely get hired, not oil money but still money to keep you a float. Idiots saying they lose their homes and toys because they can’t find a job makes me laugh. I’m glad that’s what I did when I got laid off, now I’m about to be a Jman iron worker because I started out as a labourer.
I confess that I wont paint a rig. I am good at painting and hate it. If I wanted to paint I could stay very busy in town painting at 27 bucks an hour. I sure as hell wont go out to a rig get paid a little more plus all the added responsibilities of working a rig PLUS paint. Sorry no, I have walked off rigs because of this and I will continue to do so. I wont sell my skills for 3 bucks an hour.
